transforming lives in Uganda
Christian Fellowship Ministries (CFM) is an indigenous Christian Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), based in Mbale, Eastern Uganda.
With a population of 27 million people, Uganda has gone through difficult times for the past 35 years, beginning with the brutal leadership of Idi Amin. This was followed by civil war, the HIV/AIDS scourge and rebel conflict claiming the lives of more than two million children.
Mbale District has a population of 721,000. The district capital, Mbale, is Uganda’s third largest city, with a population of 70,000. The project area, Bungokho Sub-County of Bungokho County, is located just south of the city of Mbale and has a population of 32,300. 38% of Uganda’s population live below the poverty line. More than 90% of these people live in rural areas such as the communities in Mbale region.
John and Jesca Wandera were called to bring healing and hope to the broken-hearted, traumatised and hopeless around them. They founded CFM with the aim of sharing their faith in Christ while at the same time caring for the most vulnerable.
To date they have seen 26 micro-finance schemes begun, 33 churches planted in remote rural areas and 300 children sponsored.
The children, orphaned by disease or conflict, live with foster families. Their sponsorship enables them to attend school, access medical care and feel safe and valued.
