China, Guangxi

transforming lives in Guangxi

In this province our partners work mainly with the Yao and Zhuang minority groups. The Yaos are predominantly mountain-dweller farmers with an average income of less than $90 per year. We show God’s love through support for the construction of water reservoirs up in the mountains to collect sufficient rain water during wet seasons.

Transportation for villagers, especially those in mountainous regions, is a problem due to lack of good roads and public transportation. It often takes a day to journey by donkey or on foot to a medical clinic in another town. Village clinics bring relief to the sick. CNEC/PI, because of its good relations with the local authorities, is given permission to build medical clinics and sometimes roads so that these villages can be reached by normal transport and hence open up new opportunities for the local populations. There are opportunities for short-term medical and dental teams from abroad to work in the villages. The local churches also help in translation and other works closely linked with the medical missions.

Community leaders have requested assistance in rebuilding or repairing dilapidated school buildings. Our short-term teams are welcome to teach in these schools and to provide medical screening and care for the students. A typical school has about 250 to 300 students.

The Zhuangs live mainly in the cities. We partner in this area to help alleviate poverty and hardship due to harsh environmental conditions. We partner with local pastors and churches to bring the light of Christ into communities of unreached people groups, who have never heard about Jesus.

With 320 million young Chinese under the age of 18 we are keen to support youth work. Because of good government relations we have permission to conduct English camps and English teaching. These programs help the young students to improve their English and obtain better grades for entry to higher institutions.

Other programs include training pastors, building churches, sending pastors to remote areas, running a Christian book café, micro-enterprise development and vocational training. CNEC/PI has been working in this area since 2002.
