Discipleship and Development Program
The Anglican Diocese of Mara is committed to holistic mission to equip the Christians in its parishes to move toward self-reliance. The Discipleship and Development Program began with four pilot parishes selected in 2005, with several other parishes added later.
Training includes teaching the ability to analyse, prioritise, plan and implement their chosen development projects using local resources. One parish-level committee with 30 people is selected to be trained in each participating parish in the project.
Parish projects selected include the development of goat dairies, farms and tree nurseries. Many of the parishes are also introducing prayer groups and Bible study groups.
Project support to the parishes extends for 2 years, after which they graduate out of the program, able to pursue their own development goals. The Diocese aims to continue to replicate the initiatives in other parishes.
