Tanzania, Morogoro Bible College

transforming lives in Tanzania

CHUMO stands for (in Swahili) Chuo cha Uenezaji wa Mafundisho ya Biblia Morogoro, meaning the Morogoro College of the Propagation of the Word of God. CHUMO is a program of Christian education of the Anglican Diocese of Morogoro. It provides ongoing training of church planters, workers and evangelists, combining the Bible school and the extension training program. Courses balance academic study with personal spiritual development and training in practical ministry skills, including transformational development.

With a local population of more than 1.6 million, 49% are Christian, 32% Muslim and 19% animists. The Christian church is growing rapidly and there is a need for well-trained leaders and workers to disciple new converts.

CHUMO allows three levels of Bible training. The Bible College of Morogoro has Certificate students (two-year course in Swahili) and Diploma students (three-year course in English). Six months of classroom study are followed by three months of practical self-reliant work, including church planting. Lecturers and students depend on overseas support. The dairy project is helping students to contribute to their own living costs.
