Frequently Asked Questions - Child Sponsorship (SAC)
Can a child have more than one sponsor?
Generally, each child has only one sponsor. However, we do have some special programs which sometimes require more than one sponsor. If this is the case, then we will send a copy of the child's letter to both sponsors.
How long will my sponsorship last?
This is up to the sponsor, but we hope you will make a commitment for at least one year or more. Many of our sponsors have been helping children for a number of years - and have found it to be a real blessing.
If, in the future, you wish to discontinue your sponsorship, please let us know so that we can transfer the child to a new sponsor without delay.
Will I always have the same child?
Generally, you will have the same sponsored child as long as the child remains in the sponsorship program. Many sponsors support their child from kindergarten right through to graduation from sixth grade or high school, depending on the country.
Occasionally, sponsored children leave the program before they have graduated. This may be because they have moved away, are no longer attending school, or their family's financial situation has improved.
What happens if my sponsored child leaves or graduates?
Our partner ministry will advise us whenever a child leaves or graduates from the program. At such time, we will inform you of the change to your sponsorship and recommend another child who has been waiting for a new sponsor.
Are the children from Christian families?
Many of the children are from non-Christian families. The children may come from Buddhist, Muslim, tribal or other religious backgrounds. The sponsorship program presents a wonderful opportunity to express God's love to these children from many backgrounds.
What kind of schools do the children attend?
The majority of the children in the program attend local government schools. In some areas children may attend Christian schools. They may also receive additional tuition and other support outside of school hours. Some of our projects include residential care. This may be because the child has been orphaned or neglected, or where the distance from home to school is too far to travel each day.
Can I write or send cards?
Yes, the children are always thrilled to receive letters, photos, postcards or greeting cards from their sponsor. You may like to use our template to send a message to your sponsored child. If you send this form to us via email, please note that this will be printed at our office and prepared for translation before being sent to your sponsor.
What should I write about?
Keep your letter short and simple - tell about yourself, your family, special interests, but avoid talking about personal possessions. Please do not include your address in the letter.
Don't forget
Make sure you have added your sponsored child's name and identification number on any items you send to us, so that we can ensure that they reach their destination.
How often will I get letters?
The children usually write two letters and a Christmas greeting each year. These will also be translated to English before being sent to you in the post.
