Thank you all VERY MUCH for praying with us through those long weeks of proposal writing. It was worth the effort. The Dutch embassy has chosen our project! YES!!
It will be a seamless transition between the German project which ends on 30th October, and this one which they want us to start on 1st November. It will run for three years, and builds on the foundation of the last three years of work. Looking at the competition we had, we are amazed: they were GOLIATH! So now there are contracts to negotiate and lots of administrative things to work out. Thanks again for standing with us.
Jo had a great surgical outreach in Karawa, followed by a week in Kinshasa, to put together a national plan for club foot treatment. He came to meet me in Kigali when I got back from the Mexico AIDS conference on Monday. We’ve had five days together. Then tomorrow, he will go to Butembo for another outreach surgery.
We have had some wonderful volunteers over the past four weeks on visits from Upper Room, 1st Pres. Berkeley and CNEC Australia. We are really rich in our friends. Thank you all. We love you. LL
P.S. And I forgot to ask you please to pray for Dr Christina de Wind and all the surgical team. She is in the middle of a fistula repair campaign. She expects to do 60 cases, and she is half way through, having done all the easy cases. There are now all the horribly complicated ones remaining. Often she comes home furious in the evening, after seeing all the needless suffering of these women, because of botched C-section surgery, or because of the cruelty of men, or because of days of unattended labour.
Please pray also for a group of 41 fistula women who have left Moba and are on their way for the past week, and have not yet arrived here. Where are they? They have to take a boat from Moba to Kalemie, another boat from Kalemie to Uvira; bus from Uvira to Bukavu, boat from Buakvu to Goma. May God protect them to arrive safely here. Dr Kimona and Dr Judith Goh (from Australia) will carry on where Dr Christina leaves off.
Around 40 women have gone home over the past few days. Please pray for their happy home coming, and all that is involved in settling back into their normal life and responsibilities. Many have come to know the Lord while they have been here, and they go home very different ladies from the ones who left. Have a good Sunday. LL
