    Education that builds a nation

Congo’s urgent need is to provide an educated leadership of dedication and integrity, motivated to serve the Democratic Republic of Congo.  The Protestant community (estimated at 8 million) is proud of its university, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2009.  Sponsored by the national ecumenical Church of Christ in which 62 missions/communities/denominations cooperate, UPC has more than 5,500 students (half are women) studying in four faculties:  law, business administration and economics, medicine and theology.  Students of all faiths are welcomed.   Spouses of students may enrol in UPC’s Women’s School, which provides training for income-generating projects.  Located in Kinshasa, Congo’s capital, UPC has Congolese faculty with Ph.Ds from European and North American universities.

With unemployment at about 80 % throughout Congo, and the average income for Congolese under 20 cents per day, donors can play a pivotal role in providing an education that builds a nation.  In supporting UPC, you can bring to realization the dream of millions of Christians:  to see well-educated leaders serve the Church, the government, business and all institutions.   UPC  is committed to building a stable, viable country through education.
