Center for Pastoral Studies

transforming lives in Chile

The Center for Pastoral Studies (CEP) is an Anglican training college in Santiago. It was launched in 2003 with Rev Cesar Guzman as Principal. The centre seeks to equip people for ministry. All graduates are already working in parishes, theological education or church planting.

The goal of CEP is to equip people to teach the Bible faithfully, to reach the middle class (the most unreached group), to plant churches and to serve other denominations and churches in other countries.

With 50% of the Chilean population being under 21, youth work is emphasised as an important part of ministry.

The Anglican Church of Chile has 50 rural and 50 urban congregations. There are 33 ordained ministers (9 graduates of CEP) and 67 untrained lay pastors. In Santiago, the capital and a city of 6 million, there are only 10 Anglican congregations. Clearly there is a great need for trained teachers throughout the country.

Some Sydney Anglican churches have a supportive relationship with CEP. Currently CMS also sends several expatriate missionaries to teach in the Centre.
