Fujian, Guandong & Guangxi, China
transforming lives in Fujian, Guandong and Guangxi
In these regions our partners are within the Yao and Zhuang minority groups. The Yaos are predominantly mountain-dwellers while the Zhuangs live mainly in the cities. The Yaos are farmers living off the land with an average income of less than $90 per year. We partner in this area to help alleviate poverty and hardship due to droughts and floods.
With 320 million young Chinese under the age of 18 we are keen to support youth work. Because of good government relations we have permission to conduct English camps and English teaching. These programs help the young students to improve their English and obtain better grades for entry to higher institutions.
Transportation for villagers, especially those in mountainous regions, is a problem due to lack of good roads and public transportation. Often it takes a day to journey by donkey or on foot to a medical clinic in another town. Village clinics bring relief to the sick. CNEC/PI, because of its good relations with the local authorities, is given permission to build medical clinics and sometimes roads so that these villages can be reached by normal transport and hence open up new opportunities for the local populations. There are opportunities for short-term medical and dental teams from abroad to work in the villages. The local churches also help in translation and other works closely linked with the medical missions.
Many of the Yao people live in the mountains where it rains plentifully during summer and autumn while the other six months of winter and spring are completely dry. There is severe hardship among the mountain villagers, having to fetch buckets of water shouldered on a yoke as they journey on foot across the mountains and down the valleys to underground streams. We show God’s love by assisting with their hardship by providing water reservoirs up in the mountains to collect sufficient rain water during wet seasons.
Community leaders have requested assistance in rebuilding or repairing dilapidated school buildings. Our short-term teams are welcome to teach in these schools and to provide medical screening and care for the students. A typical school is about 250 to 300 students.
